James WIGLEY; was born in Adelaide in 1918. He is an important and well
collected Australian artist. After studies at the School Of Fine Arts in
Adelaide and the NGV School Melbourne, he embarked on travel studies in
England and Europe. He was virtually unknown until 1959 when his =
exhibition at the Australian Galleries was a sell-out success. He developed a
particular interest in the life and culture of the indigenous people of =
the far North East and West of Australia, making numerous trips to study and
paint them. He is well represented in all Major Gallery Collections in
Australia, and many overseas. He died in 1999.
