IAN ARMSTRONG, (1923-2005).
Artist Ian Armstrong, (1923-2005). It is signed lower left, and was painted around 1950. It shows a lovelyProfile painting of the artist's wife Kath in Red Dress in the 1950's. Ian Armstrong was a master AustralianArtist, and died recently. I showed this and other Ian Armstrong pictures from my Collection, to Ian a fewmonths before he died, and he was thrilled to see that they had survived in such fine condition. Ian also painted in an Artists Camp in the 1940's and 50's at Lilydale outside Melbourne, with FRED WILLIAMS, and HARRYROSENGRAVE. This is a very early work by this artist, and is similar to one in the Bell School Book, by Ian. ARMSTRONG; Ian, (born Melbourne 1923, died 2005). Painter, Printmaker, Ceramicist, and Teacher. Studied at NGV School, Melbourne, George Bell School 1945/47. Slade School London 1951/53. RMIT Teaching position 1954/61. NGV 1961/66. Awards include, Comm Travel School 1950, Richardson WC Prize Geelong 1948, Aubrey Gibson Prize 1954, Crouch Prize, Ballarat, 1964, VACB occupancy Cite Intern des Arts Paris. Exhibited widely throughout Australia. Represented in all major State and Regional Galleries in Australia.
