ASHTON, Will; (Sir John William) (born York England, 1881, arr Adelaide 1884, died NSW 1963).
Studied in Adelaide under his father James Ashton, St Ives Cornwall, under Julius Olsson, and
Algernon Talmadge. Also Paris, Academie Julian. On his return from England he held successful
Exhibitions  of his European paintings. He held exhibitions in London, at the Royal Academy,
and many in Australia. He won the Wynne Prize in 1908, 30, 39. His work is represented in most
Major Gallery Collections throughout Australia, and in Collections in the UK and Europe.
